Walking by Faith - Living For God

Hey all of you awesome humans, and a final siku njema, for all of y'alls. This is my last post here, and I would like to thank you all for welcoming me onboard BJU Creative Corner. It has been such the blessing getting to know each of you!💕

To engage our brains, here is a question:

  • What is a Christian?

Our English word, "Christian" derives from the Greek word Χριστιανός, or "Christianos", meaning follower of Christ. It may also derive from the Latin, in which case it would insinuate the belonging to, or ownership of, as in slave ownership. Therefore the following questions would beg this:

  • What does it mean to be a follower of Christ?

  • How should somebody owned by Christ be living?

A survey poll suggests that over 85% of adults follow someone online, whether it be Youtube, Twitter, or TikTok.

Why do we follow people?

Why do we subscribe to channels?

Because we like the person, and what he/she has to say.

Because we are inspired by the way they live.

Because we learn from them.

In a similar manner, a Christian "subscribes" to being a follower of Jesus because we love Him and what He's done for us.

Secondly, if we are owned by the person we follow (Jesus), how should we be living?

Jesus tells us that if we love Him (follow Him) we need to obey Him - we need to do what He says.

  • “If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments." (John 14:15)

In one of my previous posts entitled "Be a Model", I discussed the fact that younger siblings love to imitate because they love the person they are imitating (the older sibling). Correspondingly, Christians imitate Christ for the reason that we love Him.

  • What does it look like to imitate Christ?

In order to imitate someone or something, it is crucial to know what that person or thing does, correct?

Hence, it is important to know what Jesus did, and how He lived, is it not?

Jesus lived lovingly.

He loved everyone, even His enemies. In fact, Jesus ate with the most hated group of people during His time, the tax collectors!

  • "While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples." (Matthew 9:10)

Jesus lived compassionately.

He willingly healed the blind, leprous, and people with various illnesses and diseases.

  • "When Jesus had said this, He spit on the ground, made some mud, and applied it to the man’s eyes. Then He told him, “Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came back seeing." (John 9: 6-7)

  • "When he came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him. Right away a man with leprosy came up and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Reaching out his hand, Jesus touched him, saying, “I am willing; be made clean.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed." (Matthew 8: 1-3)

  • "And the news about Him spread throughout Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and severe pain, demon-possessed, people with epilepsy, and people who were paralyzed; and He healed them." (Matthew 4:24)

Jesus lived rightly.

He lived to bring His father all the glory. He never sinned, but, rather, lived a holy life.

Lastly, and most importantly, Jesus lived sacrificially.

He was willing to give up His life for others. He died on the cross for mankind. He was willing to put the needs of other people before His.

Wow.

Jesus left us an incredible example to follow - from loving others to living rightly!

And, as Christians, we need to live a life that will scream to this fallen world "I love Jesus" and "I am following Jesus."

How do we do that?

By walking like Jesus walked.

By loving like Jesus loved.

By obeying the Lord, whether it be speaking gracious, kind, uplifting words, or honoring our parents, we want everyone around us to see and know that we love Jesus, because He first loved us.

  • "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear." (Ephesians 4:29)

  • "Honor your father and your mother so that you may have a long life in the land that the LORD your God is giving you." (Exodus 20:12)

  • "We love because he first loved us." (1 John 4:19)

How will you walk by faith in Christ?

Thank you all so much for reading my posts; may all the glory, honor, and praise go to the greatest One of all, the Lord Jesus Christ. Y'all have been such sweet blessings to meet. Keep on growing in Christ. Stay in the Word. Be grounded in the truth. Farewell, adieu, and kwaheri to you all.

In Christ,

JesusFreakGirl,

Serenity.
