Conversation between my little brother and me from this past Wednesday—April 20, 2022
HOLD YER HORSES! Before you start reading this absolutely hilarious dialogue, you need to know about a word it uses. Kiu, pronounced KEE-oo, is a Swahili word (Swahili’s my second language, or native language, or whatever) that means thirst. But my brother doesn’t know it ’cuz he’s still learning the language. Of course, I’m not still learning *whistles with hands in pockets*. Nina kiu means “I’m thirsty.” Well, literally “I have thirst.” You didn’t need to know that, but I made you read it anyway. Okay, now I’m done.
Him: Mommy, your name is Q!
Me: Kiu?
Him: Yes!
Me: What? Why?
Him: Her name is Q.
Me: Bro, do you even know what that is?
Him: Uh, yes.
Me: Then what is it?
Him: (pausing) It’s Q.
Me: Yes, what is kiu?
Him: (incredulously) You don’t know what Q is?
Me: I know, I’m asking if you do.
Him: Yes, I know.
Me: Then what is it?
Him: Um, it’s Q!
Me: But what IS kiu?!
Him: (staring at me blankly) I don’t know what you mean when you say “what is Q.” It’s Q, the letter Q.
Me: (understanding finally dawning) Ohh! That’s what you said. Never mind.
P.S. I hope y’all got the joke. If you didn’t, 😑 I tried.

Haha I love it!! 😂 Great job!! I think I get the language thing because my mom speaks Amharic and sometimes scenes like that pay out in my home. 🤣
