Here’s something to ponder:
My older brother asked one day when we were out on a drive, “If the sidewalk is called a ‘sidewalk’, why isn’t the road called a center-drive?”
Dialogue from May 2020, when Corona seemed to exist and we were having a Zoom call with a gang of cousins
DCFresh: Hey, Texas, how are ya, man?
Texas: I’m fine. Been going out a little.
DCFresh: What? You mean you’re disregarding this—this—situation with COVID 19 and walking around like everything’s cool?!
Texas: Huh? No, just for some exercise. You know, walking.
DCFresh: Ohh! Well, ah, you don’t look that different.
Texas: Yah, ’cuz I have my shirt on, right?
E: Keep it that way.
(Just fyi, those are my cousins’ nicknames.)
Traffic police incident from my music teacher some years back
This was told to me by my cousin, and I don’t have a firsthand account. But I’ll try to describe it as best as possible. So my teacher was driving along and came to a traffic light, where she stopped because it was red. As she waited, a traffic police officer walked up to her and demanded, “Why are you stopping? You’re causing traffic behind!”
Naturally astonished, my teacher asked, “Well aren’t I supposed to stop at a red light? Should I just keep driving and ignore it then?”
And the officer stoutly answered, “Yes! You shouldn’t stop and cause traffic.”
I’ll stop here. I don’t remember how it ended, but I don’t think my teacher got anything out of it. The officer probably realized the ludicrousness of his demand and let her go.
