“So why don’t you ask Loy why she’s not coming to training?” Cynthia said. “Just say ‘Oh hey! Why aren’t you coming on Wednesdays anymore? Is it school?’”

I didn’t respond, busily trying to get a piece of carrot off my spoon.

“It won’t come off until you answer me.”

I banged the spoon on a container and the carrot fell off. “See?”

“You forced it. It’s not good to force, like I’ll force you to answer me.”

“Oh, you can’t do that.”

“Yes I can.”

“How?” I challenged.

“I’ll pinch you until you say something.”

“Until I say ‘something?’ Whooo! I won’t say ‘something.’”
