This world seems to have a considerable amount of things to offer, correct?
From millions of dollars to rapidly advancing technology, and everything in between, (fame, friends, cars, etc.), we should be abundantly happy and content each and every day.
Yet, over 17 million American struggle with depression.
Why?
Simply since this world is unable to satisfy our deepest longings.
No amount of awards, prizes, or "stuff" will ever be able to equal true gratification.
Possessions of this world do not equate to happiness.
And the Father designed it to be this way.
In the very beginning, God gave Adam and Eve everything they would have ever needed - plenty of food, each other, and a pure relationship with God.
However, the first two humans thought something. A thought that we still think today: God is not enough.
From the start, we were created for God's glory. He alone is enough, and is able to provide everything we need by His divine and providential will.
"His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness." (2 Peter 1:3 NIV)
When Jesus came, He warned not to focus on accumulating earthly treasures, which are easily destroyed, but, on the contrary, to store up for ourselves treasures in Heaven, which shall never be ruined.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:19-21 NASB)
"Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” (John 6:27 NKJV)
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money." (Matthew 6:24 ESV)
The writer of Hebrews later picked up on this concept.
"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5 ESV)
God, and God alone, is enough.
He will satisfy.
